LEAM Applications

Gateway LEAM (gLEAM)
This model will catalyze a dialogue and partnership among local governments, public agencies, the private sector and area citizens in both the Illinois and Missouri sides of the greater St. Louis metropolitan region. Likely outcomes of alternative land-use planning policies will be explored in an open forum to promote positive change and a better quality of life within the area.

Chicago Land-Use & Transportation Evolution
The purpose of this project is to integrate LEAM with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning’s (CMAP) transportation model to establish smooth data flow and communication and to provide evaluative feedback on model validity that will be useful in integrating LEAM into a more comprehensive urban system model currently under development at CMAP.

Tri-County Region: Peoria Illinois (pLEAM)
Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford Counties in Central Illinois surrounding Peoria along the Illinois River are experiencing growth. Citizens and local officials consider the feasibility of Smart Growth solutions to guide future land use decisions.
South Central Illinois LEAM & Community Matters
This application to five rural counties in south central Illinois (Effingham, Fayette, Jasper, Clay, & Marion) will provide LEAM simulations, public engagement, and a web based planning support system to assist the region in future visioning, and various regional and local planning efforts.

Resource Protection Planning
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has supported planning at the regional level to manage each region's agricultural, environmental, and cultural resources. A few counties/regions have been selected as pilot projects for developing methods to identify resource protection priorities and strategies.
  • McHenry County
  • Will County
  • Peoria Tri-County
  • Southwestern Illinois
Military Planning (mLEAM)
Increasing urban growth in the vicinity of military installations is negatively affecting the military’s ability to fulfill its current and future missions. The purpose of this project was to quantify the current and future impacts of urbanization on the operation and sustainability of military installations. LEAM has been fully applied to two military installation regions – Scott Air Force Base in Illinois and Fort Benning in Georgia/Alabama.

Kishwaukee River Watershed
The Kishwaukee River ('river of clear waters') begins in Woodstock, Illinois, and winds its way accross northern Illinois, passing through the proposed Crow's Foot Conservation Area on its way to the Rock River south of Rockford.
