Woon-sup joined the University of Illinois and LEAM in Fall 2000. He has been involved in multiple endeavors from GIS data collection and analysis to creating the LEAM hydrology sub-model in spring 2001. The hydrological model included runoff routing and estimation of nutrient load, and was presented as a poster at Environmental Horizons 2001 and the Association of American Geographers 2002 annual meeting. For his PhD thesis in the Department of Geography, Woon-sup is modeling basin response to land cover and climate change in an urbanizing watershed in Illinois.

Woon-sup earned his BA and MA, both in Geography, from Seoul National University in 1995 and 1997. Before he joined the University of Illinois, he taught physical geography and geographical information systems (GIS) at the Korea Military Academy in Seoul, Republic of Korea, which he says was a beneficial experience certain to aid his future work in academia.

In his spare time, Woon-sup enjoys swimming, tennis, skiing, and jogging. He also loves traveling, because he feels that it gives him a lot of unexpected experience. He has traveled to New Zealand, Japan, France, Italy, and the Netherlands. He would someday like to journey to southern Europe and northern Africa.
