Dr. James Westervelt is a research scientist in the Ecological Processes Branch, Installations Division of the ERDC Construction Engineering Research Laboratory. He leads the development and application of landscape simulation models in support of local and regional watershed, landscape, and installation manager. He was the technical lead on the design and development of the Geographic Resources Analysis Support System, a GIS that is used throughout the world in support of land management research efforts and water quality modeling. Over the past decade he led the development of a number of multidisciplinary spatially explicit threatened and endangered species research models. He recently completed a University of Illinois research position where he was the program manager on a multi-million dollar water quality research program that focused on the movement of nutrients and the effectiveness of best management practices for Illinois farmland. Dr. Westervelt has authored numerous technical reports, journal articles, conference presentations, and a book on watershed modeling.
