Summary of November 17, 2004 planning workshop in Woodstock, IL

Over 60 local and regional experts assembled in Woodstock, IL, to review three planning innovations under development as they apply to McHenry County: a System of Plans, a Legacy Plan, and simulations of future land-use change.

Workshop participants used their knowledge of local conditions and planning initiatives to deliberate on three sets of questions:

1. What are the ways in which the System of Plans might enhance local planning initiatives?
2. Is the inventory of Legacy Resources complete and accurate? How might it be
improved?
3. Are preliminary LEAM simulations effectively capturing the forces that drive local land use change? How might LEAM simulations of land-use change facilitate local thinking of the future?

In addition to breakout sessions focusing on these questions, the four-hour workshop included presentations by representatives from the Illinois Dept of Natural Resources, the University of Illinois LEAM project, and the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission.

The Workshop Summary Report includes a list of participants and results of the breakout sessions.
